22 developments recognised for greening efforts this year

04 Nov 2015

12 winners for Skyrise Greenery Awards 2015, and 11 certified-LEAF developments

3 November 2015, Singapore - The National Parks Board (NParks) will be recognising 22 private and public developments this year under the Skyrise Greenery Awards (SGA) and Landscape Excellence Assessment Framework (LEAF), for their efforts in greenery provision and ecologically friendly landscapes. NParks received a total of 137 entries for both accolades.  This includes a record 123 submissions for the Skyrise Greenery Awards, a 60% increase from the 77 entries in 2013, and the highest number of submissions since the Awards’ inception in 2008.

Dr Leong Chee Chiew, Deputy CEO of National Parks Board and Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, said, “We are encouraged that more building owners, architects and developers are supporting our efforts in greening our urban environment by prioritising greenery provision. We are seeing more innovative forms of greenery integrated at the early stages of development across a diverse range of projects. The benefits of greenery go beyond just aesthetics – they are restorative as well and enhance the wellbeing of city dwellers. We hope more developers will continue to partner us in providing quality and sustainable living, while contributing to Singapore’s City in a Garden vision”.

Twelve developments will receive the Skyrise Greenery Awards 2015, with Westgate bagging the Outstanding Award for its ‘mall in a garden’ concept. Sky gardens are interspersed throughout the upper floors of the office tower to create intimate spaces for relaxation. On the lower levels, green walls line the building exterior into the mall’s atrium - injecting fresh air into the space. Notably, rooftop garden trees have been carefully considered for safety and wind loads based on their leaf sizes and crown densities. For more information about the recipients for Skyrise Greenery Awards 2015, please refer to Annex A.

Under LEAF, 11 new and existing developments were certified this year. Four of these developments: PARKROYAL on Pickering, Genting Hotel Jurong, Kampung Admiralty and Punggol Northshore District Landscape Masterplan have been recognised as “Outstanding Projects”, a category for developments that have raised the bar in urban greening excellence. These projects showcase leading innovations in design and implementation of greenery and demonstrate high quality landscapes and biodiversity enhancement above and beyond the norm. For more information about the LEAF-certified developments, please refer to Annex B.

SkyTerrace @ Dawson, an estate by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) has received both the Skyrise Greenery Award and LEAF certification. It’s the only development to be given both accolades this year.

This year’s Skyrise Greenery Award winners and LEAF-certified developments will receive their awards and certificates from Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development on 5 November 2015, during the GreenUrbanScape Asia 2015 opening ceremony.
