The Minister’s Award (Team) is an annual award to recognise significant team-based contributions to the stakeholders and the Ministry of National Development, including value creation and/or economic savings. Achieving this award would mean that NParks is recognised for its innovative team-based projects which contribute to MND’s vision and challenges of transforming Singapore into “An Endearing Home and Distinctive Global City”. In 2014, two projects by NParks have won the Award – “50 Years of Greening Singapore” and the “Skyrise Greening Initiative”.
About 50 Years of Greening Singapore:
The year 2013 marked 50 years of greening for Singapore. To commemorate this significant milestone, NParks organised a year-long series of activities to reach out to more people in a cost effective manner to raise awareness of Singapore’s greening efforts, and engage the public in sustaining our City in a Garden for the next 50 years
About Skyrise Greening Initiatives:
Today, Singapore is recognised as global leader in skyrise greenery. The significant growth of skyrise greenery here has been possible through a deliberate whole-of-government policy and programming approach undertaken by various agencies, including NParks. Our collective efforts in skyrise greenery have now become one of Singapore’s hallmark urban greening solutions and have set an international benchmark for green cities of the future.

In 2014, one project by NParks won Most Innovating Project (Nominee Award).
About Nature Ways
Nature Ways are biodiversity corridors, planted to mimic the diverse composition of tropical forests, which connect green spaces fragmented by urban development. They are part of the next phase of Singapore’s greening, which involves the community in creating a City in a Garden to enhance Singapore’s quality of life. Combining the efforts of multiple stakeholders within the community, the Nature Ways programme enriches the planting of town council areas, schools, parks, green verges and even the compounds of private corporations to provide habitats and travelling routes for birds and butterflies, thereby enhancing our urban biodiversity and bringing nature into the city to delight urban dwellers.

About Coastal Protection & Restoration of Mangrove Biodiversity at Pulau Tekong
Conventional approaches to arrest erosion usually involve installation of purely hard engineering structures. Given the multi-faceted concerns of this Pulau Tekong, this project took an innovative approach to combine both soft and hard engineering methods through using rocks, biodegradable materials and mangrove plants. These allow us to achieve our aims towards coastal protection, restoration of mangrove habitat and test-bed of non-invasive, environmentally sustainable methods. A science-based project that taps upon various expertise from engineers, biologists and modellers, it is a showcase of how cross-disciplinary collaboration is pivotal and synergistic in solving complicated problems.
