Pre-school Educational Resources on Singapore and its Biodiversity
Launched in July 2015, the ‘Pre-school Educational Resource Package on Singapore, a City in a Garden, and its Biodiversity’ is a comprehensive package of resource materials focusing on Singapore’s local flora and fauna, designed and produced specially for children aged between 5 and 6 years old.
Through this programme, we hope to raise awareness amongst pre-school children about the plants and animals found in our City in a Garden. We also hope to encourage pre-school educators to use local examples of plants and animals when teaching their students about the rich biodiversity that surrounds them.
As Singapore moves towards becoming a City in Nature, these resources are still applicable and complementary to City in Nature vision.
Complementing the latest kindergarten curriculum
This virtual treasure chest of information isin line with the 6 learning areas outlined in the current kindergarten curriculum, Nurturing Early Learners. The materials encourage young children in their discovery of the world (learning about nature), language and literacy (storybook, posters) and numeracy (posters).
Providing the resources
All pre-schools licensed under the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) have received complimentary sets of the educational resources between July and August 2015. The sets include four posters, one big book and one small picture book entitled ‘An Adventure in a City in a Garden’, a set of 30 picture word cards and a SNAP card game.
The Garden City Fund
This programme is supported through the Garden City Fund, a registered charity established by National Parks Board, that hopes to cultivate a sense of ownership and love for the environment among the public, and to encourage the community to play its part in preserving Singapore's legacy as a lush and vibrant City in a Garden.
