NParks celebrates community stewardship in greening and nature conservation with new volunteer benefit package

05 Dec 2018

Package will be rolled out to NParks’ 45,000 strong volunteer community

The National Parks Board (NParks) will celebrate the contributions of some 45,000 volunteers in conjunction with World Volunteer Day, which falls on 5 December 2018, by rolling out a volunteer benefit package. The package will include discounts at selected retail and food & beverage outlets at parks, exclusive plant sales, and opportunities to participate in customised guided tours, workshops, talks and training programmes. The package aims to recognise the volunteers’ efforts in co-creating a biophilic City in a Garden through their contributions in areas like nature conservation, gardening, education and outreach, and the upkeep of facilities through trail repair.

NParks’ network of 45,000 volunteers includes community gardeners from the Community in Bloom programme, citizen scientists from the Community in Nature initiative, and members of Friends of the Parks, amongst others. Volunteers will receive their membership cards between now to March 2019, and the card will enable them to enjoy their benefits.

Mr Dennis Lim, Coordinating Director of Singapore Botanic Gardens Festivals, Events & Exhibitions, who also oversees NParks’ volunteer management, said, “The support of the community is crucial in the conservation of our natural heritage. The community plays a very meaningful role in supporting our efforts in areas such as nature conservation, community gardening, or sharing the joys of nature with others through education and outreach programmes. I hope that more members of the public will join us as volunteers so that we can continue to co-create our City in a Garden together.”

Members of the public who are interested in joining NParks as a volunteer can find out more or register at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/volunteer
