NParks’ Parks Festival enlivens various parks island-wide with carnivals and workshops on 28 & 29 October 2017

15 Oct 2017

Park users and the local community can look forward to NParks’ Parks Festival, which will bring together NParks’ signature programmes on Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 October 2017 at five parks around Singapore. The fun-filled weekend will feature more than 50 activities at our parks, and will provide the community an opportunity to gather and bond with one another over shared spaces and common interests.

For the first time, visitors can enjoy themed activities at five of our parks over one weekend. At Admiralty Park, visitors can enjoy Family Fun, Sports & Wellness activities and participate in mass exercises such as Zumba and KpopX Fitness, pick up safe cycling tips, and get active at ActiveSG Outdoor Play Challenge. Children will be entertained by balloon sculptors and street performances such as juggling and acrobatics by The Annoying Brothers.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park will feature Gardening activities. Visitors can try their hand at harvesting herbs and vegetables, learn how to create their own aquarium, test their five senses by completing a simple task at the newly opened Therapeutic Garden and purchase fresh greens at the Farmers’ Market. Those who appreciate artistically-organised chaos can head down to the Esplanade Park for Arts & Culture activities. They can create their own paper flower fridge magnets, interact with art installations, enjoy live performances and join the sketching and heritage tours.  Nature lovers will be thrilled to join tours where they can spot Singapore’s rich biodiversity such as Grey Herons, Giant Mudskippers and Vinegar Crabs at the mangroves in Pasir Ris Park. They will also learn more about Singapore’s diverse flora and fauna at exhibition booths and through fringe activities such as glow-in-the-dark colouring.

In addition, an NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra® concert will be held in conjunction with Parks Festival at Jurong Central Park (Event Lawn) on 28 October, 6.30pm.  Following the previous themes of “Saturday Night Retro Fever” and “Contemporary Pop/Rock”, this edition will be themed “Mando & Cantopop”, featuring Xinyao, Mando and Cantopop hits.  They will be performed by Alfred Sim, Hao Hao, The TENG Ensemble, The JumpStart and Tay Kexin.  Concert-goers will enjoy singing along to their favourite hits by Jay Chou, Mayday, Jacky Cheung, Teresa Teng and other popular artistes. The concert is proudly presented by Temasek and Gold Sponsor Ascendas-Singbridge Gives Foundation, and will be hosted by popular MediaCorp LOVE 972 DJ Leelian Chua.

Temasek has supported the critically acclaimed The TENG Ensemble since 2015. Through its partnership with NParks, Temasek hopes to bring TENG’s unique sound - which bridges the traditional and contemporary - while drawing inspirations from Singapore’s musical heritage, to new audiences.
