Bonsais the size of a five-cent coin to wow visitors at Singapore Garden Festival 2016
24 Jul 2016
Held in conjunction at Singapore Garden Festival, this year’s Penjing & Artistic Stone Exhibition and Competition continues to wow visitors with works of living art. Amongst the exhibits is the smallest bonsai on display by Mr Lim Kuay Huat (林快发), 75, sporting the Chinese character for joy (乐).
In 2014, Mr Lim surprised visitors with these “calligraphy bonsais” that were the size of a one-dollar coin. This year, he returns to present an even larger collection, including a tiny bonsai about 1 cm in height – no larger than a five cent coin. These bonsais are created with the plant Wrightia religiosa, and each “calligraphy bonsai” took Mr Lim over six months to create.
Besides Penjing, visitors can also view artistic stones, landscaping on tray and antique bonsai pots at the Exhibition. Visit Singapore Garden Festival from today to Sunday, 31 July 2016, to view these exhibits and more.
