Relive fond memories through a night of Xinyao and Chinese evergreen favourites at Jurong Central Park

20 Oct 2015

Singapore, 21 October 2015– Park visitors will be able to relive fond memories through a night of familiar xinyao (新谣) and Chinese oldies (怀旧金曲) at Jurong Central Park this coming 31 October 2015. They will get to sing along with local singers belting out theme songs from MediaCorp Channel 8 hit dramas such as “Moonlight in the City” (城里的月光), “Gentle Night” (温柔的夜), “Voices from the Heart” (小人物的心声), as well as evergreen favourites of artistes such as Anita Mui, Feng Fei Fei, Fei Yu Qing and Teresa Teng.

Xinyao (新谣), a local music movement which began in the early 1980s, grew naturally from the passions of young talented Singaporeans who composed and produced songs that were often inspired from day-to-day stories and their aspirations. Through these songs, listeners can gain an understanding of Singapore’s history, aspiring dreams and hopes. ‘Friendship Forever (细水长流)’, the song that PM Lee had sung at his 2014 National Day Rally speech, will also be featured at the concert. With many exciting performances lined up, the evening at Jurong Central Park promises to inspire the creation of new shared memories and experiences.

This is the fifth in a series of six free outdoor concerts organised by the National Parks Board (NParks) at various parks as part of the SG50 celebrations. To be hosted by popular radio presenters and TV hosts, Dennis Chew (周崇庆) and Chua Lee Lian (蔡礼), the concert will feature some of the biggest names in the local Xinyao music scene like Roy Lai (黎沸挥), renowned songwriter and lyricist in Singapore and Taiwan; Kelvin Tan (陈伟联), Winner of Project Superstar (Season 1); xinyao veterans including Maggie Teng (邓妙华), Hong Shao Xuan (洪劭轩), Deng Shu Xian (邓淑娴), Pan Ying ( ) and more.

Members of the public can also revisit their childhood at the life-sized Snakes and Ladders playground and Ludo Garden, an adaption from the popular traditional family board games, unique to Jurong Central Park. Family-friendly fringe activities such as bouncy castle, game booths and F&B stalls will commence at 5pm. The programme for NParks SG50 Concert Series in the Park – Jurong Central Park and the list of confirmed acts can be found in the Annex.
