Tanjong Tree An evergreen tree that can grow up to 20m in height. Crown is round. Leaves are simple with wavy leaf margins. Flowers are small, white and sweet smelling. Fruits are orange-red in colour with velvety skin, and contain a single large hard seed. Pigeons and other birds are observed to feed on the ripened fruits. In the past, children would string the dried star-like flowers into necklaces. The tree has many medicinal uses, for example: The leaves are used to ease headaches, the bark for the treatment of pimples and the roots used to sooth sore throats.
