NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra® kick starts at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, showcasing local talent
14 Apr 2016
Singapore, 14 April 2016 – Following the success of last year’s SG50 Concert Series in the Park, the National Parks Board (NParks) will be organising a series of five free outdoor concerts at various parks around Singapore throughout the year. The Concert Series in the Park will cover a wide genre spanning contemporary pop or rock, jazz, classical and ethnic music and will feature well-known local artistes as well as provide a platform for budding local musicians to showcase their talent. The first concert, which will be graced by Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development, will be held at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park on 23 April 2016, at 6pm, Grand Lawn I.
The first concert falls under the “NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra®” which features the “Contemporary Pop/Rock” theme. The Rockestra® concert series will shine the spotlight on both established and budding musicians, and aims to inspire and encourage the development of the local music scene by serving as a platform for Singapore’s home-grown talents. The upcoming concert will feature established local talents such as Gentle Bones, Jack & Rai, Shirlyn & The UnXpected and iNCH. Budding musicians namely The JumpStart, a newly formed Chinese pop/rock band; Second Sunrise; and After 1, a band from National University of Singapore Eusoff Hall, will also be introduced. The concert will be hosted by Gurmit Singh.
Members of the public can put their creativity to the test by trying their hands at making their own badges, sand art and tie-dye bandanas at the pre-concert or fringe activities. They can also participate in friendly competitions and games like Guitar Hero and at the Foosball Table with their friends and family. Other crowd favourites include balloon sculptors and a bouncy castle for children. With many exciting activities lined up, the evening at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park presents yet another opportunity for families and friends to enjoy an evening of fun and music together.
NParks will be giving out limited picnic baskets for the concert through Facebook and SMS contests. To participate in the SMS contest, simply name the real name of Gentle Bones by texting <Your Name_Your Answer> to 77275. For the Facebook contest, members of the public can participate by tagging three friends or family members they wish to bring along to the concert. Both contests will run until 12pm, 18 April. A total of 20 winners from the Facebook and SMS contests will be able to redeem a picnic basket at the concert on 23 April. More details at https://www.facebook.com/nparksbuzz.
