Visitors to Admiralty Park to enjoy slide-themed play areas and improved amenities

03 May 2015

Upgrading works will begin in Q3 2015 and be completed by late 2016

4 May 2015 – Visitors to Admiralty Park can soon look forward to new play areas and improved amenities when works are completed in late 2016. A key outcome of the upgrading works at Admiralty Park will be slide-themed play areas that park users of all ages can enjoy. With three slide-themed play areas catering to different age groups, families will be able to bond over play as they go on the slides together.

Upgrading works based on public feedback

The new developments to the 27-ha Admiralty Park are based on public feedback obtained in 2012 during the National Parks Board’s (NParks) City in a Garden public engagement exercise. NParks had announced in 2012 that it would be developing Destination Parks to attract Singaporeans from all over the island, and Admiralty Park was identified as one of three Destination Parks to be developed.

From the ideas and suggestions collated through a series of roadshows, interviews and focus group discussions held during the public engagement exercise, members of the community indicated that they appreciated Admiralty Park for its tranquillity and greenery. There were also suggestions for more recreational spaces for families, more opportunities to get closer to nature and improved amenities such as more shelters.

In line with these ideas and suggestions, the preliminary concept ideas for Admiralty Park revolve around the themes of play and nature. Given the undulating terrain at Admiralty Park, slides will be a key feature in the new play areas as they allow NParks to create play spaces while capitalising on the park’s unique terrain. Some of the highlights of the play areas will include interesting play equipment such as giant slides, climbing ropes and telescopes.

Mr Kong Yit San, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Park Management and Lifestyle, NParks, said, “This project is part of NParks’ efforts to enhance our City in a Garden by rejuvenating and injecting greater vibrancy to our parks. Admiralty Park is unique because it comprises both a nature area and an urban area that visitors can enjoy. The park will be developed sensitively to retain the tranquillity of the area, while incorporating park spaces for community and recreational needs. We are mindful of the need to ensure that the nature area will remain largely undisturbed during upgrading works. The main works will be carried out in the urban area with new play areas being built. When works are completed, Admiralty Park will offer visitors with another green space to explore with family and friends while experiencing nature.”

Park visitors can also look forward to improved amenities such as shelters, toilets, and exercise areas. A viewing platform will also be built to allow visitors to get closer to and appreciate nature.

NParks has called a tender for construction work for Admiralty Park. Works are expected to begin in phases, starting from the third quarter of 2015. Only affected areas will be closed during upgrading works, so visitors can continue to visit the park and enjoy the park’s existing facilities.
