• NParks announces plans for Upcoming Thomson Nature Park

  The National Parks Board (NParks) unveiled plans for Thomson Nature Park today during a site visit by Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, Mr Desmond Lee. Located between Old Upper Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road, the 50 hectare nature park was first announced in 2014 and will complement existing and upcoming nature parks including Springleaf, Chestnut, and Windsor Nature Parks which extend the green buffer for the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR).

  Kew’s first Singapore Botanic Gardens Lee Foundation-sponsored MSc students start course in London

  Three Lee Botany and Biodiversity Scholars start their year-long Masters course at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew this week. Their presence is thanks to a unique partnership between the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) through the National Parks Board of Singapore (NParks). The partnership, which is supported by a grant from the Lee Foundation, will help fulfil the goal of both botanical institutions to cultivate and spread botanical knowledge.

  NParks further identifies 46 threatened native plants and animals for species recovery programmes

  Following the announcement of the Nature Conservation Master Plan at the Festival of Biodiversity last year, the National Parks Board (NParks) has identified 46 species of terrestrial and marine native flora and fauna for species recovery efforts. This announcement follows the success of previous species recovery efforts such as the propagation and introduction of epiphytic native orchids under the Orchid Conservation Programme and increase in natural populations of faunal species such as the Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros coronatus).

  NParks and Keppel Corporation announce a S$2.08 million partnership to restore historical freshwater forest wetlands at the Singapore Botanic Gardens new Learning Forest

  Today, the National Parks Board (NParks) and Keppel Corporation unveiled plans for a partnership to restore the freshwater forest wetland ecosystem historically found in the vicinity of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Located in the upcoming Learning Forest extension, the restored 1.8 hectare forest wetland will enhance the biodiversity found there, and for the very first time, provide educational opportunities for the public to access and experience a freshwater forest wetland habitat, right in the heart of the city.

  At the heart of operations for Singapore’s City in a Garden vision is the Pasir Panjang Nursery (PPN), located adjacent to HortPark. Set up in the 1970s, the 12-hectare Pasir Panjang Nursery supplies close to 200,000 plants a year to green up Singapore’s roads and parks. It is also responsible for developing optimum propagation techniques for various plant species of ornamental, horticultural or economical value. The Nursery plays a key role in the propagation and conservation of native plant species by reintroducing our native biodiversity to Singapore’s urban areas.

  National strategy to conserve elusive native Raffles' Banded Langur Launched

  Singapore’s Raffles’ Banded Langur (Presbytis femoralis femoralis) is getting a boost this National Day month, with the launch of a national conservation strategy for the critically endangered species. Ambassador-at-Large Professor Tommy Koh, who will serve as patron of the project, launched the initiative during a ceremony at Singapore Botanic Gardens today.

  Singapore Garden Festival expects to hit 400000 visitorship after the weekend closes

  As Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) draws close to its final day on 31 July, organisers have shared that they expect to achieve a visitorship of around 400,000 people, far surpassing the figures for 2014. About 300,000 people had visited SGF in 2014, when it was first relocated to Gardens by the Bay.

  ITE College East students emerge top at inaugural Landscape Design Challenge

  After weeks of designing, implementing and maintaining a garden of their own, 24 tertiary students are now richer in their experience of landscaping and horticulture. Today, H.A.D (acronym for members’ names – Hayati, Afifah, Danish) from ITE College East were crowned champions of the first-ever Landscape Design Challenge held at Singapore Garden Festival 2016.
