Research Interests
I am a botanist with a passion for tropical biodiversity, especially South-East Asia, with a research focus on the taxonomy and systematics of a range of various woody plants, the floristics of New Guinea and Borneo, and conveying plant diversity and identification techniques to a broad audience. I am primarily interested in the discovery and description of SE Asia’s plant diversity, and enhancing and curating the herbaria, specimens and data that underpin all fundamental biodiversity research. I am the Editor-in-Chief of Gardens’ Bulletin Singapore, Editor of Thai Forest Bulletin, and a member of the Flora Malesiana and Flora of Thailand Boards, as well as an international advisor for Sandakania.
Current Research
- Taxonomy and systematics of tropical Primulaceae (especially Maesa, Ardisia, Embelia).
- Taxonomy and systematics of climbing plants, including Convolvulaceae (Erycibe, Neuropeltis), Rhamnaceae and Icacinaceae.
- Revisionary work on Primulacae and Icacinaceae for Flora of Singapore.
- Floristics of New Guinea (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea).
