Our officers conduct regular checks to ensure only authorised research is carried out in the permitted areas. Unauthorised samples or specimens collected may be confiscated.

Your research permit will specify the expiry date as 1 year from the approval date. You cannot use a research permit that has already expired.
If you wish to renew your expired research permit, you will need to submit a progress report via the BIOME research permit application page before applying for renewal. You can renew your permit 60 days before the current expiry date, as long as a report is uploaded.

You must apply for additional permits if the species you are exporting is protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Visit the CITES website to check if your specimens are listed as CITES species and refer to the licence application for procedures for exporting CITES specimens.
