Highlights

Filled with days of blue skies and sunny weather, the middle of the year is a great time to get in touch with nature. It also happens that the International Day for Biological Diversity falls within this period on 22 May, a reminder that our world is so full of life in its varied forms.

In recent years, some 480 new species have been discovered right here in Singapore! It really brings home the fact that our country is truly a City in a Garden, teeming with wildlife. We celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity with Biodiversity Week, a week-long series of exciting events that culminated in the Festival of Biodiversity on 27 and 28 May.

Don’t be surprised to find fascinating critters and plants even in our gardens and parks, where you can also enjoy a host of fun activities. We show you what to look out for at the newly opened Singapore Botanic Gardens Learning Forest, and the hidden gem that is Pasir Ris Park.

How about showing your love for nature, with a spot of gardening? Make your little green patch special, by designing it as a sensory garden, one that invigorates the senses and helps enhance your area’s biodiversity. At the same time, we help to demystify some common gardening misconceptions, so that you can ensure your plants grow well.

So what are you waiting for? Head out to explore and encounter the rich biodiversity our biophilic Singapore has to offer! While you’re at it, do share your lovely photos of what you’ve seen via our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
