Chinese Olive

Did you know that the Chinese Olive has no relationship to the European Olive that is used to make olive oil? 

Chinese Olive (Canarium album) belongs to the Burseraceae family while the European Olive (Olea europaea) is from the family Oleaceae. Instead of making olive oil, Chinese Olives are usually consumed as preserved fruit or used to make ‘Gan Lan Chai’, a traditional pickled vegetable in Southeast Asia.
