Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A medium sized epiphyte to terrestrial orchid.
Foliage Oblong-shaped, leathery green leaves.
Flowers Terminally located, pale green with pubescent peduncle, inflorescence up to 60 cm long. Each flower has 1 greenish ovate, inflated sepal and 2 spirally twisted lateral sepals of dark purple.
Habitat Found on large trees at elevations of 1250 to 2200 m.
Cultivation Plant requires cool to cold growing environment.
Etymology The genus Paphiopedilum means Venus'-slipper (Venus' temple was at Paphos, Cyprus). The specific epithet parishii is named after Reverend Charles S. Pollock Parish, a specialist on Burmese orchids.
