Description

Size 35 cm
Description Bill slightly up-turned; legs long. In flight, legs project noticeably beyond tail. Leg colour grey to pale olive. Breeding: head, neck, breast blackish brown and heavily streaked. Non-breeding: head, neck look pale.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Habitats Mangroves, Mudflats, Sandy Shore
Distribution The East Asian-Australasian population breeds in Central Asia, Central & East Siberia to Kamchatka; winters in south East Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. While birds breeds from UK to Central and East Siberia winters in Africa, Middle East and South Asia, West Russia to Siberia winters in Africa, Middle East and South Asia. A common winter visitor and passage migrant to Singapore and Sungei Buloh. It is one of the most common birds found in Sungei Buloh between Aug and Apr. First arrivals from the southward migration arrive as early as Jul. Found in Changi, Khatib Bongsu, and mostly mudflats, estuaries, sandy shores, prawn ponds, inland reservoirs, canals.
