Singapore and its biodiversity

Launched in July 2015 and supported by the Garden City Fund (GCF), NParks' registered charity and IPC, the preschool educational resource package on Singapore and its biodiversity is a comprehensive package of resource materials focusing on Singapore’s local flora and fauna.

It is designed and produced specially for children aged between 5 and 6 years old.

Learning objectives

These resources are in line with the 6 learning areas outlined in the current kindergarten curriculum, Nurturing Early Learners. They encourage young children in their discovery of the world (learning about nature), language and literacy (storybook, posters) and numeracy (posters).

Through this programme, we hope to:

  • Raise awareness amongst preschool children about the plants and animals found in Singapore.
  • Encourage preschool educators to use local examples of plants and animals when teaching their students about the rich biodiversity that surrounds them.

Conducting the programme

All pre-schools licensed under the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) have received complimentary sets of educational resources between July and August 2015.

These educational resources are also available online below. Each set includes:

Frequently asked questions

Although these resources were designed specifically for children in the K1 and K2 cohort, schools are free to use these resources for students at other levels as well.

Many of our partner centres have adapted the resources and executed age-appropriate activities to complement their centre’s nursery curriculum.

As we have limited stock and have no plans to reprint, new schools may wish to email Raymond_Chan@nparks.gov.sg if they are interested in getting a copy of the resources, subject to availability.

You may download the entire package on our website.

At this moment, we have no plans to distribute these resources to any bookstores or retail outlets. Members of the public who are interested in getting a copy of the entire package should download them online.
