Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A herbaceous plant grows about 1.5 m tall.
Foliage Its leaves are green, paddle-shaped.
Flowers Its inflorescence are pendant and grow in one plane. The bracts are bright red, with dark-green tips and yellow edges. The true flowers are tubular, yellow and half-buried in the bracts.
