Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a large-flowered shrub that climbs up to 3.5 - 4.5 m. 
Foliage Deciduous leaves, compound pinnate, each leaflet is arranged oppositely, leaflet is ovate and has serrated margin. 
Stems Stems have thorns. 
Flowers Large flowers of about 10 - 13 cm in diameter, dark red, cup shaped, multipetalous (at least 40 petals), borne in clusters. 
Taxonomy Other alternative cultivar names include 'Meidrason', 'Red Pierre', and 'Eric Tabarly'.  
Cultivation Can be trained as climber. 
Etymology The genus Rosa is a latin name for rose.
