Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a tree, up to 70 m tall.
Foliage Leaves are lanceolate (7 – 10 cm long and 2 - 3.5 cm wide), thinly leathery and usually have wavy margin. Petiole is 1 cm long and stipule falls off early (12 mm long). Branches are dotted with pale brown lenticels.
Flowers Flowers occurs in a cluster. Flower bud is spindle shaped and reveals white lanceolate petals with 30 stamens when in bloom.
Fruit Fruit calyx lobes is spatula-shaped (up to 9 cm long and 2 cm wide) with an ovoid nut (2 cm diameter).
Habitat It is found in fertile volcanic soil, up to 700m altitude.
