Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Large tree, able to grow up to about 3 - 18 m tall, sometimes up to 30 m in its natural habitat.
Trunk Bark is greyish and surface is warty, young branches tend to be pubescent.
Foliage Green leaves imparipinnate, measuring about 16 - 22 cm long, petiole about 2 - 3.5 cm long, each leaf consist of 7 - 9 lanceolate to oblanceolate leaflets about 12 - 15 cm long and 4 cm wide, both surfaces glabrous.
Flowers Pink to yellowish white flowers borne on a terminal panicle inflorescence about 12 - 30 cm long, each flower about 1.5 - 1.8 cm wide, pedicels and peduncle rusty pubescent.
Fruit Fruit is a dehiscent cylindric pod, orange-red when mature and brown when dried, contains 1 - 4 seeds.
Etymology Genus Ormosia is from the Greek word "hormos" which means "a necklace or chain" and refers to the seeds. Species pinnata means set in opposite ranks (pinnate).
