Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Large tree, able to grow up to 30 m tall in its natural habitat.
Trunk Greyish bark, younger stems covered with rusty brown hairs.
Foliage Leaves measuring about 9 - 21  cm long and 1 - 5 cm wide, alternate arrangement, young leaves are pinnatifid (about 5 - 9 lobes), adult leaves are lanceolate in shape.
Flowers White fragrant flowers borne in an elongated raceme inflorescence, each cluster can be up to 6 - 14 cm long and densely packed with the small flowers.
Fruit Small fruit measuring about 1.2 - 1.4 cm long and 0.7 - 0.9 cm wide, contains a single papery seed about 1 cm long and 6 cm wide.
Habitat Can be found in rainforests and their margins, riparian vegetation, gallery forests, usually from sea level up to 900 m altitude.
Etymology Genus name "Grevillea" is named after Charles Francis Greville (1749 - 1809) who helped to establish a society now called the Royal Horticultural Society. Species baileyana is named after Captain F. M. Bailey who originally named this plant under the genus Kermadecia.
