Abstract This issue features the winning projects of three local landscape awards on skyrise greenery, landscape architecture and landscape industry, as well as the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Awards. Besides beautifying the urban environment, green roofs may be integrated with solar PV to create energy efficient verdant buildings - Chiara Catalano and Nathalie Baumann discuss this topic in their article on the symbiosis between biodiverse green roofs and renewable energy. The Ecology section features Windsor Nature Park which plays the important role of a green buffer and My WaterWay@Punggol, where floating wetland systems and freshwater-tolerant mangroves intensify greenery, enhance water quality and improve biodiversity, creating a sustainable and biophilic environment in a public housing estate. In closing, the expression of landscape aesthetics is explored - Patrick Blanc sees the vertical garden as a demonstration of beauty and Mr. Junichi Inada talks about incorporating the essence of the ‘Japanese sense of beauty’ into the design of green spaces in the tropics.
