Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A compact shrub that grows up to 75 cm.
Foliage Leaves are obovate, deep green, arranged in whorls along the stem, glossy on the upper surface but matte on the lower surface. Leaf blade measures about 4-6 cm in length and 2.5-3 cm in width, entire margin, with rounded apex (tip) and shortly attenuate base. Petiole (leaf stalk) length is 1-3 mm long.
Flowers Single-petalled white flowers of 5 to 7 cm in diameter.
Fruit Not observed to date.
Taxonomy This cultivar is invented by John Robb (Kulnura) in December 2012 and patented in 2019 (PP31207). The seed parent is the commercial variety Gardenia ‘Buttons’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 24,229) while the pollen parent is the unpatented commercial variety Gardenia ‘Grandiflora Star’. This cultivar is also sold under the name Gardenia 'Cupid'.
