Foliage | Thorns are long straight with a slight curve near the tip. Young foliage is olive green with a tinge of red. Mature foliage exhibits two different types of variegation pattern. Type 1 has irregular variegation of creamy yellow and shades of green; type 2 has regular variegation of shades of green in the centre near to midrib and creamy yellow on the margin. |
Flowers | The flowers are clustered at the end of the branches. Flower bracts are purple, lanceolate in shape, with acuminate tip and acuminate base and undulate margin. |
Taxonomy | The new variety was found in Changi Airport and was registered with International Centre of Registration Authority for Bougainvillea, New Delhi, India. |
Etymology | The genus Bougainvillea is named after Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811), a French naval officer and circumnavigator. |
