Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A large shrub with a dense canopy.
Foliage Leaves are glossy and leathery, elliptical in shape and have entire leaf margins. Leaves are oppositely arranged along the stem, and patterned with golden yellow and green.  
Stems Branches have prominent leaf scars.
Cultivation Grow in fertile, well-drained soil that is mildly acidic to mildly alkaline. Allow the soil to dry between each waterings. The plants should be planted under full sun. 
Etymology The genus Fagraea is named after Dr. Jonas Theodorus Fagraeus (1729-1797), who was a Swedish physician, naturalist and botanist. Specific epithet ceilanica means from Sri Lanka.
