Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A small sized tree up to 10 m tall. 
Foliage The spirally arranged leaves are massive, measuring to 90 cm long and 60 cm wide.
Flowers The flowers are borne in a syconium.
Fruit The fruits are subglobose, growing to 15 cm in width. The unusual figs are covered by many bracts. Ripe fruits are reddish-brown. 
Habitat The plants are found along streams and rivers, and also on landslips in secondary forests.
Associated Fauna The flowers are pollinated by a wasp Ceratosolen abnormis.
