Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Prostrate, sprawling herbaceous plant up to 2 m wide.
Foliage Velvety, light green leaves are oval to diamond-shaped (7.5-10 cm long).
Habitat Occurs in coastal areas and salt marshes. Although it is native to Australia, it is considered an agricultural weed in some parts of Queensland.
Ethnobotanical Uses Edible Plant Parts : Edible Leaves
Food (Fruit or Vegetable): Young leaves can be used like spinach, but they contain oxalic acid which can irritate the throat. Blanching the leaves and discarding the cooking water will help to remove the oxalic acid.
