Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A big tree up to 33 m tall.
Trunk Trunk to 50 cm in diameter, with buttresses to 2 m tall and reaching outwards by about 1 m.
Foliage Leaves are spirally arranged, up to 1 m long, with 3 or 4 pairs of leaflets. The slightly rough leaflets are elliptical-ovate, up to 30 cm long and 10 cm wide, arranged alternately. Leaf veins are prominent below.
Flowers Flower clusters are about 25 cm long. Blossoms are creamy-white.
Fruit Fruits measure to 10 cm in diameter, globose to pyriform, shallowly ridged. Mature fruits are orange-red and fruit flesh is orange-yellow. There are 1-2 seeds in each fruit. 
Habitat Forests up to 1,800 m altitude, on river banks as well as limestone
Etymology Greek Dysoxylum, foul wood, referring to the fetid odour of the wood of certain species in this genus. The specific epithet macrocarpum means large fruit in Greek.
Ethnobotanical Uses Timber & Products: The wood is used to make furniture and also suitable for construction work.
