Roots The root system is composed of a large taproot.
Foliage The plant consists of 2 large, strap-shaped leaves. The ends fray and leaves split longitudinally over time which gives the impression of there being more than 2 leaves.
Flowers This species is dioecious with male and female cones produced on separate plants.
Others - Plant Morphology Some plants can live over a thousand years old!
Associated Fauna The leaves provide a source of moisture and nutrients for desert mammals including the endangered Hartmann's zebra and black rhino. It also provides shade for birds, reptiles and arthropods.
