Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Mound-shaped cactus forms low-growing clumps.
Stems Stem has a round, mound-shaped form which is covered in oval-shaped tubercles. Each tubercle is armed with 10-12 radial spines and occasionally 1-2 erect central spines.
Flowers Light to dark magenta flowers have numerous, cream-coloured stamens and sometimes white throats (3-4 cm long, 3-4 cm wide). The floral tube is funnel-shaped.
Fruit Fruits are dark brownish red (4-5 mm wide).
