Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form The underground stolons form large mats.
Foliage Purplish black, cylindrical leaves are narrow and gently taper at the tip. The upper surface bears a single, longitudinal groove. 
Flowers The brownish, trumpet-shaped flower-like structure is actually multiple cyathia arranged in 1-4 cyme inflorescences.
Habitat They are often found growing in the midst of various grass species.
Cultivation It grows best under light shade.
