---|---|
Foliage | Narrow, green leaves are lanceolate to linear. |
Stems | Narrow, solid culms are dull green. It has straight internodes that are produced at an angle from one another, forming a zig-zag shape. In mature culms, the culm sheaths are composed of a rough-textured base and a smooth, upper portion which makes up most of the sheath. The rough bases help the plant to attach itself to the trunk, as it climbs up a tree. In young culms, there is no distinction between the base and upper portion. The sheath base typically remains on the culm after the upper portion has fallen off and can be used as a diagnostic tool to identify members of the Dinochloa genus. |
Flowers | The inflorescence is composed of small, one-flowered spikelets. |
Fruit | Berry-like fruits are round to egg-shaped (2-30 mm long). Young fruits are thick and fleshy, but becomes thinner and less fleshy as it matures, The embryo is relatively large compared to the endosperm. |
