Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form An epiphytic, monopodial orchid. It has an upright growth habit.
Foliage The leaves are thick and elliptic to oblong-elliptic in shape. The leaves are silver-grey and mottled dark green. 
Flowers The flowers are borne on a arching to pendant inflorescence which can grow up to 1m in length. The flowers are 7 to 8cm wide and have pale pink sepals and petals with a white margin. The flower lip is three-lobed, the lateral lobes are upright and flare outwards, the mid-lobe is obovate with two hair-like appendages growing from the tip.  
Habitat It can be found growing in rainforests at altitudes of 0 to 450m. 
Cultivation It is best grown under full shade with regular watering and high humidity. It can be grown mounted on fern bark or hung in clay or plastic pots to accommodate its inflorescence.
