Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Spiny succulent up to 0.3 m tall.
Stems Bluish-green, 4-sided stems (1 cm wide) are densely armed with sharp, coppery spines that occur in pairs.
Flowers The yellow inflorescence, known as a cyathia, looks like a small daisy. It is composed of petal-like modified leaves, a female flower and several male flowers.
Cultivation This plant requires well-drained soil. Allow the soil to dry out before re-watering.
