Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A monopodial, epiphytic orchid, it is endemic to the Philippines. 
Roots The plant has thick roots. 
Foliage The leaves are large and strap shaped. 
Flowers The flower inflorescence is a raceme and dense with pendulous, arching growth habit. The purple and white flowers are long lasting and fragrant. The petals and sepals are white with purple tips while the spur is green. 
Others - Plant Morphology The plant is listed as endangered in the ICUN Red List of Threatened Species. 
Habitat It is found growing at elevations of up to 500m in the lowland, primary and secondary tropical forests of the Philippines under bright light. 
Taxonomy The historical spelling of Aerides lawrenciae has been corrected to Aerides lawrenceae.
Cultivation It is best grown in coarse potting mix such as tree fern slabs or in baskets. Frequent watering and a humid environment are needed for this plant to thrive.
