Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A large herbaceous plant. 
Foliage The large smooth leaves are heart to arrow-shaped and have distinct veins. Th leaf blade and the leaf petiole are deep purple in colour. 
Stems It has a large underground stem known as a corm. 
Flowers The flowers are inconspicuous, unisexual and aranged along a spadix. The female flowers on top and the male flowers below. The spadix is surrounded by a long, thin spathe. 
Fruit The fruit is a small berry.
