Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Slender clump forming banana to 2.5m tall
Foliage Leaves mid - dark green, to 60cm long
Flowers Inflorescence to 50cm in length. Bracts fully reflexed at flowering, bright orange red, tips bright yellow. Flowers to about 3cm long, yellow.
Etymology This species is sometimes known under the trade name Musa 'Hanoi Torch' which refers to (1) area from which plant was first introduced into cultivation and (2) the form/shape and color of the inflorescence.
