Description and Ethnobotany
Growth Form | It is an evergreen tree, up to 30 m, with slender drooping twigs and no buttresses. |

Trunk | Bark red-brown to dark brown and flaky. |
Foliage | Leaves are ovate shaped (4 – 10 cm long and 2 -5 cm wide), leathery and usually with gland-like domatia in the axils of veins. Young leaves are bright red and become glossy green as they matures. There are 6 - 9 pairs of secondary veins and ladder-like tertiary veins. Twigs is dark brown and smooth, often slightly zigzagging. Petiole is 1 – 1.2 cm long and stipule falls off early, leaving a faint stipular scar. |
Flowers | Flowers occurs in clusters which is up to 8 cm long. Flowers are small, cream to pale yellow, honey scented, and covered in soft hairs. Flower buds are ovoid (up to 3 mm long). |
Fruit | Fruit has 2 long wings (up to 3.5 cm long and 1.3 cm wide) which is spatula-shaped, and 3 shorter wings (up to 0.4 cm long and 0.1 cm wide). Fruit is pale green, ripening pinkish orange. Nut is cylindrical (1 cm long and 0.3 cm wide) with an abruptly tapering tip. |
Habitat | It is found in lowland deciduous evergreen forest, mostly on rocky ridges and limestone. |
Cultivation | Sapling have peltate leaves. |
