Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a tree, native to Singapore.
Foliage Leaves are elliptic (5.5 - 12.5 cm long and 1.2 - 5 cm wide) and have a slightly papery texture. Each leaf have 9-11 pairs of secondary nerves, and reticulate tertiary nerves. Petiole is 1 – 2.5 cm long, ribbed and bends slightly like knee. Stipule is strap-like (about 10 cm long) and leaves a stipular scars after falling.
Flowers Inflorescence is about 4 cm long, occurs axillary and is irregularly singly branches. Flowers are bright red.
Fruit Fruit has 2 long calyx lobes (about 8 cm long and 2.5 cm wide) and 3 shorter lobes (2.5 cm long and 1 cm wide). Fruit nut is globose and about 7 mm long.
Habitat It occurs on low lying and hillside forest.
