Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a tree up to 36m tall.
Foliage Its alternate,stalked leaves have leathery leaf blades that are broadly egg-shaped to almost round, and 15-35 by 13-35 cm.
Flowers Its flowers are very small.
Fruit Its hairy fruits are yellowish and 25 by 6 cm.
Habitat It grows in lowland forests up to 720 m altitude. It occurs locally in the vicinity of MacRitchie Reservoir.
Associated Fauna Its flowers are insect-pollinated.
Cultivation It can be propagated by seed.
Etymology Greek skaphion, a skiff (flat-bottomed boat with a shallow draft, pointed bow and square stern), referring to the shape of the fruit; Latin linearicarpum, long and narrow-fruited, referring to the fruits
