Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Medium to large-sized tree, able to grow up to about 15 - 30 m tall in its natural habitat.
Trunk Bark is dark brown, girth size can reach up to 2 m wide.
Foliage Green oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate-oblong leaves, measuring about 9 - 27 cm long and 3.5 - 9 cm wide, petiole about 8 - 17 cm long, margin slightly recurved.
Flowers Flowers borne on a terminal raceme inflorescence about 10 cm long.
Fruit Fruit is brownish-orange and subglobose in shape, measuring about 4 - 10 cm wide, texture rough.
Habitat Can be found in evergreen rainforest.
Etymology Genus Gonystylus is from Greek words "gony" which means "joint or knee" and "stylos" which means "a style" and they refer to the angled style of the plant. Species confusus means it was earlier mistaken for another species.
Ethnobotanical Uses Medicinal: A decoction made from the roots is consumed to recover from the exhaustion of childbirth.
