Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Tall emergent trees, up to 45m tall.  Tree with heavy dome-like crown and black sap. 
Foliage Leaves spirally arrangement and oval shaped (16 – 30 cm long and 8 – 15 cm wide). Young leaves are hairy on both sides, while old leaves are mostly smooth except for hairs on midrib. Veins are raised below and looping near the margin. 
Flowers Flowers are bisexual and occurs in panicles. Each flower has a cap-like calyx, 5 overlapping petals and 5 stamens. 
Fruit Fruit is globose with 5 enlarged wing-like petals (1 – 2 cm long), and is rose red coloured when fresh. 
Cultivation It is propagated by seed.
