Foliage | Leaves are elliptic (2.4 – 6.4 cm long and 1.6 – 2.4 cm wide) with unequal base and distichously arranged. Stipules are triangular (1.2 mm long and 1.5 mm wide) and petiole is 0.25 – 0.35 cm long. |
Flowers | Borne in clusters, flowers are pale yellow and small (about 0.4 cm diameter). Male flower have 4 – 5 stamens, which are distally attached via connective teeth, and 3 (rarely 4 or 5) anthers. Female flower is solitary among the males in a cluster. Female flower have a hairy globose ovary and columnar style. |
Fruit | Fruit is 0.1 cm long and often only one per leaf axis. It splits open when mature, revealing 12 – 14 ribbed capsules which contains seeds with red arils. |
Habitat | It is found in open areas of forested fringes, and can be found locally in Woodlands, Mandai and Yio Chu Kang forests. |
