Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage Leaves are simple and leathery, arranged in opposite pairs, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate with smooth margins. Leaf blades are pointed at both ends. The central vein is very prominent, while the side veins are barely visible. Young flushes are light reddish-bronze in color, turning to bright yellow-green, finally to dark green when mature.
Flowers The small flowers are unisexual, yellow and light red in color.
Fruit The fruit is oval and slightly skewed, with a ridged rind and beaked end, orange in color when ripe.
Etymology The genus is named for Laurent Garcin, a French naturalist with the East India company, traveled in the orient in 18th century.
