Description and Ethnobotany

Others - Plant Morphology This small grafted Corymbia (formerly Eucalytus) grows up to 5m in height, with an irregular crown. The leaves are ovate, large (up to 30cm long and 5cm wide), and start out bronze, then turning to dark green with a light green underside. The yellow midribs on the leaves are clearly visible. The flowers are formed by many deep pink stamens surrounding a bright yellow centre, and are borne in large terminal clusters. They are attractive to nectar-feeding birds and bees. The rootstock may show a woody bulge at the base of the trunk, which is called a lignotuber, which is common among Corymbida and Eucalyptus species.
Taxonomy It is a hybrid between C. ficifolia and C. ptychocarpa.
Cultivation As with all grafted trees, ensure that any shoots or growth from the rootstock are pruned away completely as they will affect the growth and vitality of the scion (grafted tree) and possibly compromise the stability of the graft union. This tree prefers full sunlight, well-drained soil, and does not need irrigation under normal outdoor conditions once it is established.
