Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage Leaves are green and leathery with prominent veins. About 28 – 50 cm long and 13 – 20 cm wide, foliage is elliptical and has plicate leaf margin. Petiole is reddish brown, woolly and about 5 -7 cm long. 
Fruit Fruit (approx. 5 cm long and 5.5 cm wide) has vestigial lobes (8mm long) and 5 obtuse bumps at the neck.  
Etymology Greek di, two; Greek pteron, wing; Greek karpos, fruit, referring to the two-winged fruit. 
Ethnobotanical Uses Timber & Products: The genus Dipterocarpus produces a moderately hard to hard timber that is known commercially as keruing. It is used for general purpose in building construction.
