Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A dwarf evergreen shrub which grows up to 1 m tall with a round and dense crown shape. 
Foliage Green leaves are arranged oppositely along the stem, leaf blade is simple and has serrulate margin, ovate in shape, and has parallel venation. 
Flowers Purple petals, stamens are shaped like hook.  Flowers are borne in clusters (called as inflorescence). 
Fruit Round shaped fruits, brown and inconspicuous. 
Etymology The genus Tibouchina means shaggy-haired stamens.  The specific epithet granulosa means covered with granules or granulate, which refers to the grainy texture on the leaves.
