Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a solitary palm, up to 15 m tall.
Foliage Leaf is fan-shaped (90 – 180 wide) with many segments, and light green coloured. Petiole is 90 – 120 cm long, mostly brownish green with white waxy coating, and have fibers on the margins.
Flowers Inflorescence is 60 – 90 cm long and bears many small fragrant yellow flowers.
Fruit Fruit is round (about 1.2 cm diameter), borne in large clusters, which turn from green to glossy black when mature.
